Understanding the Jewish Messiah: Prophecies and Expectations

One of the central themes of biblical prophecy is the promise of a future age of perfection characterized by universal peace and recognition of G-d. (Isaiah 2:1-4, 32:15-18, 60:15-18; Zephaniah 3:9; Hosea 2:20-22; Amos 9:13-15; Micah 4:1-4; Zechariah 8:23, 14:9; Jeremiah 31:33-34)

Specifically, the Tanakh says he will:

1) Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28).

I will make a covenant of friendship with them—it shall be an everlasting covenant with them—I will establish them and multiply them, and I will place My Sanctuary among them forever.

27

My Presence shall rest over them; I will be their God and they shall be My people.

28

וְיָֽדְעוּ֙

And when My Sanctuary abides among them forever, the nations shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel.

2) Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6).

Fear not, for I am with you: I will bring your folk from the East, Will gather you out of the West;

6

I will say to the North, “Give back!” And to the South, “Do not withhold! Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the end of the earth—

3) Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4)

Thus He will judge among the nations And arbitrate for the many peoples, And they shall beat their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks: Nation shall not take up Sword against nation; They shall never again know war.

4) Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: “God will be King over all the world – on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One” (Zechariah 14:9).

And the LORD shall be king over all the earth; in that day there shall be one LORD with one name.

If an individual fails to fulfill even one of these conditions, then he cannot be the Messiah.

Because no one has ever fulfilled the Bible’s description of this future King, Jews still reasonably await the coming of the Messiah. All past Messianic claimants, including Jesus of Nazareth, Bar Cochba and Shabbtai Tzvi have been rejected.

Christians counter that Jesus will fulfill these in the Second Coming. Jewish sources show that the Messiah will fulfill the prophecies outright; in the Tanakh no concept of a second coming exists.

An Eligibility Requirements For The Messiah

•He must be Jewish — Deut. 17:15 prohibits us setting a non-Jew as a king over us. See also Gen. 49:10 (“The scepter shall not depart from Judah….”).
•He must be descended from David and Solomon — I Chron. 17:11-12, 22:9-10; Ps. 89:29-38; Jer. 33.17; 2 Sam. 7:12-16.
•That line will be through the father since the Torah teaches that families registered their ancestry by their “fathers’ household.” Num. 1:18.
•Rambam (Maimonedes) adds that the Messiah will resolve the numerous rabbinic disputes on Jewish law that came up over the past 2000 years or so after the Roman exile. Mishna Torah, Hilchos Melachim 11:4.
But more important is the fact that the Messiah must bring about the Messianic Era which would include:
1 . World-wide belief in the G-d of Abraham — Isa. 11:9, 40:5; Zeph. 3:9.
2 . World-wide peace — Isa. 2:4, 11:6; Micah 4:3.
3 . Relocation of all Jews to Israel, gathered from the four corners of the earth — Deut. 30:3-4; Isa. 11:12, 27:12-13.
4 . The Temple will be rebuilt — Micah 4:1. And
5 Resurrection of the Dead (and resettlement into Israel) — Isa. 26:19.
Rambam points out that some of these events, and other events must happen within the Messiah’s lifetime. According to Rambam the Messiah in his lifetime must: a) cause all Jews to become observant; b) repair issues that divide us on halachic questions; c) fight the wars of Israel, d) rebuild the Temple, and e) gather in the exiles. Hilchos Melachim 11:4. If the Messiah fulfilled some miracles but not all, before dying, we cannot regard him to be the Messiah, and instead view him as a test or our own will. Hilchos Melachim 11:5 (ואם לא הצליח עד כה או נהרג, בידוע שאינו זה שהבטיחה עליו תודה … ולא העמידו הקדוש ברוך הוא אלא לנסות בו רבים) (“But if he did not succeed in all this or was killed, he is definitely not the Moshiach promised in the Torah… and G-d only appointed him in order to test the masses….”) There are certainly other attributes and signs that might indicate that one is or is not the Messiah, but without bringing about the Messianic Age, it doesn’t matter if he performed miracles, rode a Donkey into the Old City, or suffered in any kind of manner for any length of time. The righteous among us produce miracles daily, and many of them suffer daily for the sins of other Jews who deserve puninshment in this world for certain sins, but who might lose faith if he was punished as he deserved. See Talmud Bavli, Brachos 5a. And, lets be honest, for the right fee, anyone can ride a donkey into the Old City. The bottom line we expect from the Messiah is that he deliver the Messianic Era; anything less won’t work.

Jewish Views On Messiah And Resurrection Of Dead

Malachi 3:1

Behold, I am sending My messenger to clear the way before Me, and the Lord whom you seek shall come to His Temple suddenly. As for the angel of the covenant that you desire, he is already coming.

Moshiach will come suddenly even though if we don’t deserve it yet. A day of redemption will be in the world that people from the nations will want convert to Judaism and want to do mitzvah (commandments).Nations will want to reconnect themselves for 40 years with Jewish nation and its chosen people by Hashem- Jewish people. Daniel 12:2

Many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, others to reproaches, to everlasting abhorrence. At the outset of days of Moshiach,Moshe and Aharon and his children will be resurrected in order to teach people the proper path.In addition all Jewish people who were righteous and died in exile will come back to the life and behold the goodness the Jewish people will receive including the rebuilding of Brit HaMikdash. Then will be general resurrection which will occur in the of the sixth millennium. The second resurrection will follow Messianic epoch which will last either 40 years, 70 years or three generations. Some rabbis suggest that will be resurrected of the same appearance of physical body and soul and some rabbi pointing out that souls will be resurrected into complete new bodies, we won’t recognize them physically. Which is why if someone will want to marry their former spouse they will need to do kidushin again.

Then people of nations will see one nation of Gog Maggog initiating war against Jewish nation. Those who became new converts will give up and join Gog Maggog against Jewish people. This will happen 40 years after converts joined Jewish people.

Every Jew who is left will be surrounded by 950 spiritual swords to protect them.In the six thousandth year the world as we know it is destroyed and a completely new world is born, a world that is completely spiritual.

A concluding thoughts:

People were taught when they were younger that when Moshiach comes the world will suddenly be completely different, money will grow on trees and every Jew will have a thousand slaves, etc. They are waiting for a big shofer to sound, for truth to be undeniable revealed and suddenly all their problems will go away. That is the misunderstanding.

It is clear from many midrashim and many sources that this is not the case. Not only from the Pirkei Heichalos but other sources as well. Like the Rambam says it’s a big mistake that people make when they think there will be drastic changes when Moshiach comes, rather עולם כמנהגו ילך the world will continue as is. There are a few things that Moshiach will accomplish during his years of reigning:

1) Bring people to recognize Hashem

2) Build the Bais Hamikdash

3) Bring peace in the world (which will come after overcoming the army of Gog Umagog).

These things don’t happen instantaneously but could take a nice number of years. So the essence of redemption is not money growing on treesand having a ‘good life’, rather the essence of redemption is recognizing Hashem and clearly understanding that there is nothing else in this world besides for Him. Those who are already connected to this truth experience the beauty of redemption during that time and even beforehand, but it is likely to take time until Moshiach finishes the job of bringing everyone to this awareness and thereby rectifying the world, in preparation for the true drastic change of the world which will only happen in the year 6000.

Genealogical And Scriptural Qualifications Of The Messiah

Was Jesus of Nazareth a Messiah?

Messiah will be of the tribe of Judah

Genesis 49:10

Messiah must be a direct descendant from David and Solomon through his human biological father.

Jesus of Nazareth didn’t qualify, he had a virgin birth. Even if he didn’t have a virgin birth the genealogy in Matthew 1 goes through Jeconiah, whose line was disqualified from kingship as part of Elohim’s curse (Jeremiah 22:30,36:30) and in Luke 3 the genealogy doesn’t go through Solomon as required but his brother Nathan (II Samuel 7:12-14, I Chronicles 17:11-14, 22:9-10, 28:4-6). Jesus of Nazareth is the most definitely not the Jewish Messiah.

Rambam, Laws of Kings and their Wars 11:5:
If a king will arise from the House of David who diligently contemplates the Torah and observes its mitzvot as
prescribed by the Written Law and the Oral Law as David, his
ancestor, will compel all of Israel to walk in (the way of the Torah) and rectify the breaches in its observance, and fight the wars of G-d, we may, with assurance, consider him Mashiach. If he succeeds in the above, builds the Temple in its place, and gathers the dispersed of Israel, he is definitely the Mashiach. He will then improve the entire world,
motivating all the nations to serve G-d together, as Tzephaniah 3:9 states: ‘I will transform the peoples to a purer language that they all will call upon the name of G-d and serve Him with one purpose. If he did not succeed to this degree or was killed, he surely is not the redeemer promised by the Torah. Rather, he should be considered as all the other proper and complete kings of the Davidic dynasty who died.
So we need one flesh-and-blood human who, before dying,
does the following:

  • Gets Jews to keep the Torah
  • Fights wars of G-d
  • Builds the Temple
  • Gathers the dispersed Jews
The timeline after that is a lot more open-ended.
But somebody who got the first two bullet points and then died before any of the other ones, we can’t say “well they hit the Messiah checklist, and other points will happen later.”
Someone’s only the Messiah if they hit all four. Jesus of Nazareth didn’t qualify, he had a virgin birth. Even if
he didn’t have a virgin birth the genealogy in Matthew 1 goes through Jeconiah, whose line was disqualified from kingship as part of Elohim’s curse (Jeremiah 22:30,36:30) and in Luke 3 the genealogy doesn’t go through Solomon as required but his brother Nathan (II Samuel 7:12-14, I Chronicles 17:11-14, 22:9-10, 28:4-6). Jesus of Nazareth is the most definitely not.

Additional information:
Jesus did not descend from Jeconiah / יןִכָ הוֹיְ י)Y’hoyachin)….
In the two conflicting lineages given for Joseph one goes
through Jeconiah. Per Christians Joseph was not Jesus’ biological father, thus Jesus had no rights to any tribe Judah or any other tribe. Joseph was not Jesus’ biological father so the curse had nothing to do with Jesus one way or another. If Joseph was a descendant of Jeconiah, the curse is still on
Joseph too, per the Hebrew Bible who never states it was lifted. If the curse was lifted it might mean that Joseph had the correct lineage, as would his biological sons through Mary but not Jesus (who was not his biological son). And “no” lineage does not transfer via adoption. And “no” the mother’s lineage by birth doesn’t matter either as long as she is Jewish. If the curse was actually lifted, as the Rabbinic
literature discusses, then it shows that many things atone even for curses from G-d. This means that there was no need for a “last and final” sacrifice a blood sacrifice (aka Jesus).
This invalidates the entire basis of Christianity that Jesus had
to die for your sins. So it should be immaterial to a Christian
whether Jeconiah was forgiven or not. Judaism 101 says if we repent, G-d forgives. The Talmud (Sanhedrin 37 and 38) discuss whether or not the Babylonian Exile could atone as does repentance. For one thing, a person who might have been condemned to death prior to the exile was not killed. In the case of Jeconiah the Rabbis were divided on how much of one’s sins are atoned through repentance in exile so there was no conclusion that Jeconiah’s “curse” was lifted by his repentance in exile. Did Jeconiah’s repentance in exile wipe away G-d’s curse as the missionaries insist? Nowhere in the Hebrew Bible is there an account of the curse being lifted,
and it would have been mentioned if it were, since this is such an important matter. The discussion in the Talmud is a debate and there is no firm conclusion as to whether or not the curse was lifted. Other rabbinic sources referenced by missionariesto “prove” that the curse was lifted are all from stories, not from “facts.”Along with the Talmud missionaries will quote from Pesikta d’Rav Kahana and Vayikra (Leviticus) Rabbah.
Both are aggadic midrash (homily, stories meant to make a moral point, not literal theology). So missionaries want to point to homily stories as if it proves something…In M’lachim
Beit / 2 Kings 25 Jeconiah was freed from Babylonian prison.
Shealtiel, his grandson, was the first Resh Galuta / Exilarch…. The Jewish leader in exile. The Jews in Babylon had a Jewish ruler who was a Davidic heir. Since they were in exile this person couldn’t be a king — so they were called
the אָלוּתָגּ ישׁ ֵר, Resh Galuta (head of the exile), or “Exilarch.”
There was an exilarch until as late as the 15th century CE when the last one was deposed.    The last recorded Exilarch, Shalom, (1365 – 1401 CE) was deposed by the Tartar King Tamberlane. They were all descendants of Jeconiah. In Israel there was a comparable role called the יאִשָׂ נ / Nasi / Prince.
This office ended much more quickly than the Exilarch.  Gamaliel VI was the last nasi. He died in 425 CE
and  Emperor Theodosius II wouldn’t allow a successor.
Davidic heirs keep their “family trees.” The late Rebbe, head of the Chabad, was a Davidic heir. There are a lot of them who are known including myself. There are descendants alive today… Yet not one has fulfilled the messianic prophecies. The lineage is a requirement, but far from the only one. Finally having the right lineage is just a requirement it is not a guarantee. In every generation there are thousands of Davidic heirs and to date none have fulfilled the messianic prophecies…

Uniting Jewish People Through Zeal for Torah and
Commandments: A Path to Messiah and Judgment

In the vibrant tapestry of Jewish identity, the Torah stands as
the central thread, a divine guide that shapes the lives of and the observance of its commandments, or mitzvot, is not merely a cultural practice; it is a profound spiritual calling that has the potential to unite Jewish people across the globe.
This unity, rooted in a shared commitment to divine principles,
can ultimately bring forth the Messiah and usher in a period of
judgment that aligns with the ultimate aspirations of the
Jewish people.
The Power of Zeal for Torah
Zeal for the Torah is characterized by an unwavering
commitment to understanding and living by its teachings. It
encompasses a passion for learning, a dedication to practicing the mitzvot, and a fervent desire to create a world
that reflects the values embedded within the sacred texts.
This zeal can manifest in various forms: through intense study sessions in yeshivas, communal gatherings where individuals share insights and interpretations, or through
personal reflection and application of Torah principles in
everyday life.
When individuals engage with the Torah with fervor and enthusiasm, they not only enrich their own spiritual lives but
also inspire those around them. The contagious nature of spiritual zeal can bridge gaps between individuals and communities, fostering a sense of belonging and collective purpose. By encouraging more people to embrace this passion, Jewish communities can cultivate an environment where the Torah is revered, studied, and practiced, thereby reinforcing their commitment to the commandments.

Mitzvot as a Unifying Force

The commandments serve as a framework for Jewish life,
guiding behavior, establishing moral standards, and nurturing
a sense of community. Each mitzvah carries profound
significance, providing both spiritual elevation and practical
benefits. When Jewish individuals come together to perform
mitzvot, they create an atmosphere of unity that transcends differences in background, observance, and belief.
For example, communal celebrations of Shabbat, festivals, and life-cycle events offer opportunities for collective
observance. These gatherings not only strengthen interpersonal relationships but also reinforce the shared identity of the Jewish people. Moreover, acts of kindness and charity (tzedakah) echo the Torah’s call for social justice, further solidifying communal bonds. By emphasizing the importance of mitzvot and encouraging communal
participation, Jewish leaders and educators can reignite the
spirit of unity and shared purpose that is essential for the realization of messianic aspirations.

The Messianic Vision

The belief in the coming of the Messiah is a cornerstone of
Jewish faith. It embodies the hope for redemption, the restoration of justice, and the ultimate fulfillment of divine promises. However, this vision is not merely a passive expectation; it requires active participation from the Jewish people. The Torah teaches that the actions of individuals can
impact the collective fate of the community. Therefore, the
zeal for Torah and mitzvot must be coupled with a desire for
justice and compassion, creating a world ready for the arrival
of the Messiah.
As Jewish people deepen their commitment to the Torah and
its commandments, they align themselves with the values that the Messiah represents: peace, righteousness, and divine justice. This alignment not only prepares the individual spiritually but also creates a communal atmosphere that is conducive to the messianic era. When Jewish communities
wholeheartedly embrace their spiritual legacy, they embody
the values that the Messiah will ultimately champion.

The Role of Judgment in the Messianic Era

Judgment, within the context of Jewish belief, is not only a
mechanism of divine assessment but also an opportunity for
growth, repentance, and transformation. It is through
judgment that individuals and communities are called to
reflect on their actions and their alignment with the divine will.
The messianic era, marked by divine judgment, will serve as a clarification of moral standards, rewarding righteousness and rectifying injustice.
To prepare for this era of judgment, Jewish people must
cultivate a culture of self-examination and accountability. By fostering an environment where individuals are encouraged to engage in teshuvah (repentance) and seek personal growth, communities can create a robust spiritual foundation. This
foundation will not only facilitate individual transformation but
also strengthen communal ties, paving the way for a collective readiness for the Messiah’s arrival.

Conclusion

The journey towards the Messiah and the impending judgment is not a solitary one; it is a communal endeavor that
calls for collective zeal for the Torah and its commandments.
By nurturing a passion for learning, encouraging the
observance of mitzvot, and fostering a culture of accountability, Jewish people can unite in their shared purpose. This unity, grounded in a commitment to divine principles, has the potential to not only prepare the Jewish community for the messianic era but also to fulfill the aspirations of a world seeking justice, peace, and
righteousness. In this pursuit, the Jewish people can be a beacon of hope, embodying the very essence of the Torah and its transformative power.

The 7 Prophesies Of The Last Moshiach

The concept of Moshiach is taught in the Tanach, and clearly teaches all the following criteria must be fullfilled for any person to be seen as Moshiach.

1 Moschiach will reign as King of Israel and gather all Jews from exile back to Israel. Jews will flood to Israel.

An Eligibility Requirements For The Messiah

•He must be Jewish — Deuteronomy 17:15 prohibits us setting a non-Jew as a king over us. See also Genesis 49:10 (“The scepter shall not depart from Judah….”).

•He must be descended from David and Solomon — I Chronicles 17:11-12, 22:9-10; Psalms 89:29-38; Jeremiah 33.17; 2 Samuel 7:12-16.

•That line will be through the father since the Torah teaches that families registered their ancestry by their “fathers’ household.”Numbers 1:18.

•Rambam (Maimonedes) adds that the Messiah will resolve the numerous rabbinic disputes on Jewish law that came up over the past 2000 years or so after the Roman exile. Mishna Torah, Hilchos Melachim 11:4.

•According to Jewish law a Jewish anointed king (moshiach) must be a fourth generation born Jew from a Jewish mother. He must also be from an unbroken Jewish paternal line to Sollomon. He must also be from the tribe of Judah whichexcludes a paternal side convert. But more important is the fact that the Messiah must bring about the Messianic Era which would include:

1 . World-wide belief in the G-d of Abraham — Isaiah 11:9, 40:5; Zephaniah 3:9.

2 . World-wide peace — Isaiah 2:4, 11:6; Micah 4:3.

3 . Relocation of all Jews to Israel, gathered from the four corners of the earth — Deuteronomy 30:3-4; Isaiah 11:12, 27:12-13.

4 . The Temple will be rebuilt — Micah 4:1.

5. Resurrection of the Dead (and resettlement into Israel) — Isaiah 26:19.

6.Bring all Jews to Israel.

7. Fight the wars of G-d and eliminate all idolators. Afterward there will be world peace forever.

8. He must dedicate The Temple as prophecized in Ezekiel. He must be annointed by a Sanhedrin led by a qualified Prophet. This Prophet is Elijah, who never died. If the Messiah fulfilled some miracles but not all, before dying, we cannot regard him to be the Messiah, and instead view

ואם לא( 11:5 him as a test or our own will. Hilchos Melachim.

הצליח עד כה או נהרג, בידוע שאינו זה שהבטיחה עליו תודה … ולא

But if he did not“( )העמידו הקדוש ברוך הוא אלא לנסות בו רבים

succeed in all this or was killed, he is definitely not the Moshiach promised in the Torah… and G-d only appointed him in order to test the masses….”) There are certainly other attributes and signs that might indicate that one is or is not the Messiah, but without bringing about the Messianic Age, it doesn’t matter if he performed miracles, rode a Donkey intothe Old City, or suffered in any kind of manner for any length of time. The righteous among us produce miracles daily, and many of them suffer daily for the sins of other Jews who deserve puninshment in this world for certain sins, but who might lose faith if he was punished as he deserved. See Talmud Bavli, Brachos 5a. And, let’s be honest, for the right fee, anyone can ride a donkey into the Old City. The bottom line we expect from the Messiah is that he deliver the Messianic Era; anything less won’t work. Everyone in the world will acknowledge he is the Messiah because everyone will have prophesy. If even one person does not believe he is the messiah, then he is not the messiah. Is Messiah Ben David considered a magical character? No not at all. Contrary to popular opinion Messiah Ben David is not a superpowered person, miracle worker, deity, or any angelic being.

The Messiah Ben David is not magical or supernatural. Therefore the person of Moshiach Ben David is not considered a magical character. Messiah Ben David is the person who does the following:

1 Brings all remaining Jews to Israel.

2 Fights the wars of G-d and wins.

3 Fights against idolworshipers.

4 Fights against those that seek to eliminateIsrael.

5 Builds and Dedicates the Temple as per the prophesy of Ezekiel. He is the Prince of Peace.

6 He does all of this within his lifetime.

The Prophet Elijah will anoint legitimate Messiah. The Malachi 3:22-24 in context it is preceed by a warning to obey the Torah and a reminder that Elijah The Prophet who never died will return to anoint the legitimate messiah (who is a human being) so that he can dedicate the Eternal Temple ofG-d. The great day of G-d is a reference to the gift of Prophecy allhumans will receive at this point because of the existence of the Temple. The following speaks further on the restoration of the courts. The Judges will not think themselves above their children (children can means students) and the children (students) will turn and listen to their teachers and follow the law.

The Messiah only needs to do the following things to be The Messiah:

• He must be a human man. Not a woman, a man. Only a man can be annointed a King under Jewish law. Queens may rule but they are not annointed. The proper translation for Queen is “head princess”. The concept of a Queen equal to a King does not exists under Jewish Law.

• He is born of a Jewish mother that has been Jewish for at least four generations on both sides. This makes him a Jewish born person without ancestral flaw on his mother’s side.

• He is born Jewish of a Jewish father from an unbroken Jewish paternal line to Sollomon. This Jewish paternal line must be Jewish for at least four preceeding generations on both sides. This makes him a Jewish person who is of The tribe of Judah and rhe royal lineage of David through Sollomon.

• He bings all Jews to Israel.

• Establish World Peace after eliminating all idolworshipers and all those who seek to destroy the Jewish people.

• Rebuild The Temple at The command of The Prophet Elijah.

• Bring the offerings of “The Prince of Peace” as prophesized in Ezekiel upon being told to by Elijah The Prophet.

• Defeats all idol worshipers in a war and establishes universal monotheism and permanent world peace.

• He then needs to wait until he is annointed by Elijah The Prophet. Then he is The Messiah.

A Religion In Times Of The Messiah

It could be said that the only form of religion will be JewishMonotheism applied in various different ways. This will allow for Israelite and Gentile to keep their individual nature and still share in the goodness of G-d. There will be three systems ofreligious practice during the messianic era. All three will be founded in the monotheistic principles and theology of the Jewish Torah.

1. The 613 comandments for Jews, who will all live in Israel.

2. The 7 laws of the sons of Noach for those non-Jews who live outside of Israel. Each nation/person outside of Israel will be free to live in any way that does not conflict with these 7 laws.

3. The 7 laws of Noach plus the special laws that apply to a Ger-Toshav (non-Jewish resident of Israel).

When Do Jews Expect Arrival of Messiah

In the next decade there are two major times that are most auspicious times. 2023 and 2030. These years follow sabbatical years, and those are linked with the time of thesalvation at the End of Days as per the book of Daniel and in tradition.

How Jewish Messiah Will Prove He is Messiah and Has Line to King David?

There are signs of who Mashiach is, in the Talmud and codified by Maimonides (Laws of Kings chapters 11 & 12, especially 11:4). Whoever fulfills them does not need an ancient family tree scroll to prove anything further. Whereas even someone with such a document still has toprove the criteria. So the qualified one will become known as the actual messiah. He is destined to be from Judean Governor Zerubbabel (from the Book of Ezra) who is descended from many greats including Kings David, Solomon, Hezekiah and Josiah.

The commentary of Metsudos David, on Haggai 2:23 & Zechariah 6:12, is one of the sources for this.

Partial quote from Maimonides, Laws of Kings, chapter 11. “…If a king will arise from the House of David who diligently contemplates the Torah and observes its commandments as prescribed by the Written Law and the Oral Law as David, his ancestor, will compel all of Israel to walk in (the way of the Torah) and rectify the breaches in its observance, and fight the wars of G-d, we may, with assurance, consider him Mashiach. If he succeeds in the above, builds the Temple in its place, and gathers the dispersed of Israel, he is definitely the Mashiach. He will then improve the entire world, motivating all the nations to serve God together, as Zephaniah 3:9 states: ‘I will transform the peoples to a purer language that they all will call upon the name of God and serve Him with one purpose.’ If he did not succeed to this degree or was killed, he surely is not the redeemer promised by the Torah…”

What prophecies which must be fulfilled in order to identify the Messiah?

Mishnei Torah: Laws of kings and their wars. by Maimonedes. The messiah is not identified through prophecies or miracles. Rather he is defined as “The Messiah”, meaning the legitimate king of Israel prophecized in Ezekiel by fulfilling three laws regarding monarchial restoration successfully. Maimonedes states that someone who does the first two can be assumed to be a potential Messiah, he then continues on and states that only someone who does all three can be saidto be The Moshiach. The point is that to be The Moshiach you have to EARN the title. The thing is that to be The Messiah all of ithas to be done in ONE lifetime.

He must be a Jew by birth from a Jewish Mother. His Father is from The Tribe of Judah and he is a descendant of King David through his son Solomon on his father’s side through an unbroken Jewish paternal line.

He is an observant Jew who follows Jewish law and believes in The Torah and all of Jewish theology, both Written and Oral. He rules the land of Israel and is the legitimate leader of the nation of Israel via the conquest of Israel.

After these things come to pass.

• He brings all the Jewish people back to Israel.

• He leads the Jewish armies, fighting the wars of G-d thus eliminating all idol worshipers – false religions all who would harm Israel.

• He rebuilds The Temple, re-establishes The Sanhedrin at the command of Elijah The Prophet who has returned and confirms him as king. (The Prophet Malachi last verses.) Then he is The Messiah and not before. He must do all of the above in one lifetime without dying. Judaism is passed down from the mother, one may be technically a Jew, but not Jewish. Jewish in this case means a belived in The Tradition of The Prophets. Jewish Doctrine states that The Messiah must do three things within his lifetime to be considered The Messiah.

1. Bring all the Jews to Israel.

2. Establish “Shalom.” This includes world peace along with an end to all conflict of any type as well as no more idol worship.

3. Complete the Physical third temple. Jesus did not do any of these. Therefore he is not The Messiah under the tradition of The Prophets. (Judaism,). According to the Prophetic Tradition, The Messiah is a humanmale from an uninterrupted father to son line from the house of David through Sollomon and the Tribe of Judah.

According to Christian Doctrine Jesus had a non-Jewish father. Therefore he does not qualify as the messiah under the biological requirement either. All Jewish kings are called messiah (anointed). This is different from The Messiah which means The Annointed and refers to a specific Messiah. Jesus never was a king over any physical are of the world. A high priest as well as levites are also called messiah (annointed) in Judaism (again not The Messiah) because they were initially annointed with oil. Jesus was not a levite or of the Priestly class. Some, but not all Prophets are called annointed in scripture and they are only considered as such under Jewish Doctrine when specifically reffered as such in scripture. Even then it is usually a temporary or unique situation such as Moses triple status as temporay high priest, king, and head prophet.

According to Christian Doctrine Jesus was not a prophet, but rather a manifestation of deity.

Conclusion:

Christian Doctrine and Jewish Doctrine have mutually exclusive definitions of what The Messiah is. To belive one is to exclude the other. It is possible to be a Jew who is a christian, but it is not possible to be Jewish and be Christian. Judaism and Christianity are incompatible.

Additions To 14 Last Prophesies:

Gog is listed in 1-Chronicles 5:4 as a sub-clan of the tribe of Reuben. Magog is listed in Genesis as a part of the sons of Yaphet. The Gematria (Numerical Value in Hebrew) of Gog and Magog is 70 and 70 represents all of the nations of the earth (Midrash Tanchuma, Korach 12). Perhaps it should be interpreted figuratively as the peoples hostile to Israel and its Creator and the war to destroy them. The Rosh is listed as a sub clan of the tribe of Benjamin in Bereishit 46. The ancient book of Jasher has Tubal as the people east of the Volga River. Meshech, a son of Yaphet in Bereishit, is believed to the founder of a settlement on the Volga that is now known as Moscow.

Incidentally, the family name of the current Pope (Francis, officiating since 13 march, 2013) name is [Jorge] Bergoglio. Which could be interpreted as ” of the Sons of Gog”. There is a source (Midrash Tanchuma, Korach 12) from the Sages that says what you say i.e. that Gog and Magog represent all the nations of the earth. At least one other source (Abarbanel) assumes that the forces of Edom (Esau) will be synonymous with those of Gog and Magog.

As far I understand the sources:

1. First of all the Israelites lead by Messiah son of Joseph and Ephraim and allied with Judah will fight against Edom and defeat them. This will be followed by the Union of Judah and Joseph, etc. The Messiah son of David then appears. He helps Messiah son of Joseph complete the defeat Edom.

2. Gog and Magog come after this. Messiah son of Joseph may be killed by Gog and Magog – the most likely but it could be he is not killed at all. Messiah son of David leads Israel in defeating Gog and Magog. After that the Messiah son of David will rule over all the earth. It would seem from this that in effect Gog and Magog will have somehow represented all the anti-Israelite nations who will have remained after the wars against Edom.

3. The Messiah son of David will rule over all mankind. At the beginning this may be more by way of nature but evolve in a spiritual direction. Messiah son of David will rule over mankind with the help of his Israelite subjects. There are 70 sons and grandsons of Jacob who went down to Egypt. These became 70 Tribes and clans of the Tribes. These parallel the 70 nations of the word. It may be that each of the nations will be guided by one of the 70 sons of Jacob. Gog of Reuben may became the supervisor of Gog and Magog son ofJaphet. Similarly Tarshish was another one of the sons of Japhet (Genesis 10:4) and Tarshish is the name of an entity (great-grandson) in the Tribe of Benjamin (1-Chronicles 7:10).
